Why You Need a Side Hustle

We all want a job that fills us with passion and purpose, and of course one that pays. There is nothing worse than dragging yourself out of bed every single morning, just go work eight long hours at a job that leaves you feeling lifeless. Entrepreneurship may seem like the anecdote, but you don’t have to leave your 9-5 just yet.

You need a side hustle.

A side hustle is the gateway into entrepreneurship, without the immediate risk. While entrepreneurs pride themselves on taking the leap and going all in right away, that may not be realistic for some of us.

If you have just graduated college, you may not want to risk having to go live at home with your parents again. If you have a kickass corporate job, you may not want to kiss that all goodbye just yet. And if you have a family to support, bills to pay, or a huge amount of debt to pay off (hello, student loans), your paycheck may actually be your lifeline.

But if you find yourself feeling incredibly unfulfilled in your day job, craving financial freedom, and feeling like there has got to be more to life than a 9-5 job, you need to start a side hustle, right now.

With a side hustle, you are able to take what you are deeply passionate about, and turn it into a side business that adds another revenue stream to your life.

And guess what?

You might even make MORE money than what your 9-5 pays, giving you the perfect opportunity to become a full-time entrepreneur.

If you are not convinced just yet, here are 5 reasons why you need a side hustle.

1. Do work that you actually enjoy.

Before you decide to build a side hustle solely on your “passion”, I want you to pause for a moment.

Passion, is not enough.

“Whaaaat. Why?”

For one, passion is an emotion, not a thing. Passion is something that is built into your character, and it is something you apply to everything you do.

There may be times throughout your life where your passions change, or where you just start losing passion for something you once loved.

Or, if you are like me, you are passionate about MANY things, and if you were to pursue your passion, you would be starting 10 different businesses.

I am not saying that you should not include your passion into your side hustle, because you should.

However, you need to weigh in your personal strengths and what consumers actually want.

Remember, a side hustle is a business, not a hobby.

Your side hustle idea should be a combination of your strengths, your passion, and what consumers want.

That will give you a side hustle business idea that is personally fulfilling, and one that will actually make some money.

2. Test out your business idea, risk free.

Before you start your side hustle or any business, you will most definitely need to research your market. However, you will never really know how your product or service will be received by consumers until you actually execute.

Now this is another reason why you need a side hustle…to see if your business has the potential to be successful and generate a profit.

Since you are still working a 9-5 job, you have a steady revenue stream. So even if your side hustle isn’t profitable, or if generating an income is taking more time than initially planned, you have money coming in from your day job.

Now if you do need to put some money behind your side hustle to begin, you can do so without burying yourself in debt.

You can look at your day job as the “investor” in your side hustle. So if you have money left over every month from your paycheck, you can invest a portion of that into your side hustle.

If you invest wisely in your side hustle, you can experience a greater return.

While there are tons of marketing courses and expensive online business coaching services, you should focus on what you actually need to drive business growth and profit.

This includes learning strategic marketing methods focused on growth and adaption, as well as connecting with other people in your industry.

3. More money to spend and more importantly, invest.

Money isn’t everything. But, financial freedom and the ability to live your life on your own terms is something worth striving for.

Imagine no longer having to live paycheck to paycheck. Think about how amazing you would feel if you were debt free. And that travel destination that has always been on your bucket list? Envision yourself actually there.

But this isn’t to say that you should just blow the money earned from your side hustle on material objects or lavish vacations right away. You’ll want to think about how you can reinvest that money back into your side hustle business, to generate more future revenue.

So for instance, if you made $500 in one week from your side hustle, you could use that $500 to run Facebook ads to attract more leads and eventually more customers.

4. Prove to yourself that you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur.

If being an entrepreneur was easy, no one would be working the 9-5 job. But starting and running a business takes grit, dedication, persistence, and an enormous amount of time and patience.

Side hustling isn’t any easier. (There is a reason why the word “hustle” is included.)

As a side hustler, you are putting in 8 hours of work during your day job, and spending your mornings, evenings, and even your weekends, working on your side hustle.

Work. Work. Work. Work. Work.

But if you are serious about eventually becoming an entrepreneur, you need a side hustle to begin with. By working crazy hours, pushing past any sign of burnout, and remaining laser focused on your bigger vision, you will undoubtedly prove to yourself that you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur.

5. Live the life you have always wanted.

Have you ever found yourself thinking, “There has GOT to be more to life than the 9-5 job!”?

I know that I have thought about this many, many times.

I have always been an extremely ambitious person with insane goals, which majority of people think are unbelievable and illogical. Yet I feel so deeply in my soul, that I have a greater purpose that extends far beyond working the typical day job.

Do you feel the same?

If you have always envisioned yourself as someone that is meant to achieve something remarkable, noteworthy, and impactful, you need a side hustle.

The 9-5 job will never be enough to unleash your true potential and unlock your unique contribution to the world. But if you cannot just take the immediate risk and become a full-time entrepreneur tomorrow, a side hustle will give you the opportunity to create your legacy now.

A side hustle could very well lead to unimagined success. You may find that your business idea has enormous potential, and you may even begin making MORE money from your side hustle than from your day job.

You need a side hustle to give you the ability to create something for yourself and for your future. You deserve to live the life you have always wanted, and a side hustle can be the stepping stone to opportunities you didn’t even know existed.

You Need a Side Hustle, Now

If you are waiting for the perfect moment to start your side hustle, you will be waiting forever. The perfect moment simply does not exist.

You will struggle, you will make mistakes, and things will not go as initially planned.

But that is what leads to true success.

All that you need to do is start.
